Today, in 1928, The Louis Armstrong Hot Five recorded “West End Blues,” at OKeh Studios in Chicago. Pops came up to Chicago to join King Oliver’s band, and left Oliver in 1925. I’ve got a number of old photos of Pops, along with other early Jazz greats in my book, New Orleans Jazz.
