Friends of the Cabildo is proud to announce a symposium in conjunction with the Bicentennial of the Battle of New Orleans Weekend (Saturday, January 10th). Held at the Old U.S. Mint, Dr. Alan Taylor, 2014 and 1996 Pulitzer Prize Winner in History and University of Virginia Thomas Jefferson Foundation Professor of History, will present on the War of 1812 and his newest book The Internal Enemy: Slavery and the War in Virginia, 1772-1832.

A panel discussion will take place with Dr. Lawrence Powell and Dr. Clarence Mohr, moderated by Dr. Charles Chamberlain. Other lecturers include Dr. Lo Faber, visiting Loyola University-New Orleans Visiting Professor, United States Military Academy – The History of Warfare Historian Dr. Joseph Stoltz and Dr. Shelene Roumillat (Tulane University).

Friends of the Cabildo Members will have the first viewing of Louisiana State Museum’s newest exhibit, From Dirty Shirts to Buccaneers: The Battle of New Orleans in American Culture on Saturday, January 10th. Located on the 2nd Floor of the Cabildo, Members will see some of the most important and significant artifacts from the Battle of New Orleans. Legacy and above members will be able to have a patron preview at 6:00 p.m., with a champagne reception and curators on-hand for tours.
